Portshowlio 2016 website

In order to spread the word about our portfolio show at Seattle Central Creative Academy, I worked on a team of my classmates to design and develop a professional-quality and standards-compliant website. My role in this project was on the development team. The layout team devised a website that was unconventional in style and function, and I quickly found myself taking the reins and letting my jQuery and CSS knowledge come to the rescue to bring this idea to fruition.

In order to create the unusual and eye-catching “rolodex” feature on the front page of the site, I used Waypoints, the popular jQuery plugin by Caleb Troughton, to trigger a CSS class that would hide and show the featured “hero” image from each student project when that student’s name was scrolled near the middle of the screen.

The site was powered by WordPress and used the always indispensable Advanced Custom Fields plugin to create an interface for each student, whether designer or photographer, to easily lay out their own project pages whether or not they had any HTML knowledge. On these individual project pages, I used Waypoints once again to trigger a fading effect on fixed position blocks of text alongside corresponding images.

On June 8, 2016, the site was nominated for Website of the Day by CSS Design Awards.

On June 15, 2016, it was featured on CSSAWDS.

The site can be viewed online here.
