Early Filmmaking Projects

Clarence the Monkey was a student film I wrote, directed, and starred in at the age of 17 for visual communication class at Sedro-Woolley High School in 2004. Based on the format of a classic 1960s TV sitcom with the lead role given to a monkey puppet. My sense of humor at the time was fed with a steady diet of The Simpsons, at least twice a day.

This is a student project from my time in the Graphic Design program at Seattle Central Creative Academy. On this project, I spearheaded the creative concept, designed and managed the visual environment, and edited the final cut.

Another student project from my time at Seattle Central Creative Academy. The assignment was to create a convincing commercial for a random product. On this project, I directed the concept, visual identity, and aesthetic execution according to a playful chillwave indie summer vibe, created mood boards and storyboards, and animated the logo.

For this student project, I was the editor and sound designer, and I also wrote the script, to be read by my classmate in his best impression of David Attenborough.

Ichabod Imp’s Idiotic Incident was a short film that I wrote, directed, and animated as a self-directed special project during my final year in graphic design school at Seattle Central Creative Academy in 2016. The script is based on the text of a pop-up book that I wrote, designed, and built the previous year. As a creative constraint, I chose to make every word of the story begin with the letter “I” with no exceptions. The project was instrumental in my later skills as a motion designer because I had to learn how to use Adobe After Effects as I went along.

The Radical Funhouse of Un-American Activities is an unfinished short film heavy on political satire and social commentary. This project was self-initiated, and everything in it was done singlehandedly by yours truly during the 2020 COVID shutdown, including the music. I even made the puppet myself following an online tutorial! Seen here are some puppet tests in front of a green screen I set up in my apartment, as well as a logo reveal.
